When classes begin this fall, Baylor faculty members will say goodbye to the Harrington House, which has served as a faculty center since 1974, and hello to the new McMullen-Connally Faculty Center at the corner of Fifth and Speight. One of the perks of the new facility will be the presence of the extensive watercolor collection donated to Baylor by Dr. Faber McMullen '53, MD '56, and Roxanna Connally McMullen, Class of '52, who also made the gift for the construction of the building.
In all, the McMullens donated almost three hundred paintings, but only fifty-five can be displayed at a time in the new center, according to Karin Gilliam, director of the Martin Museum of Art, which has taken on the task of caring for the collection. Gilliam said that the bulk of the collection features art by painters in the California School of Watercolor, but there are also significant works by Texas artists.
