Jennifer Manby Miller ’98 thought she would be celebrating her daughter’s second birthday on March 17. Instead, a routine trip to the pediatrician’s office revealed that Corinne had leukemia. Now the Millers, along with family and friends, are gathering in their hometown of Sugar Land for a replacement blood drive on April 26. Martha McMullan Singleton ’71 is one of only ten high school teachers to be named a Texas Outstanding Teacher for 2008. A journalism teacher at Holmes High School in San Antonio, Singleton has also been recognized by the Dow Jones Newspaper Fund and the
Wall Street Journal as one of America’s Distinguished Journalism Educators. One of her former students,
20/20 correspondent Don Dahler, said of Singleton, “Through her very low-key style, she showed us what was possible. And, for me, that has made all the difference.”
Retirement Party

On May 31, Dr. Ray Vickrey ’57 will retire from Royal Lane Baptist Church after twenty-six years with the Dallas church. During his fifty-year career in ministry, Vickrey served in the student ministry department at Baylor, was minister of single adults at First Baptist Church in Richardson, and was on the executive board of the Baptist General Convention of Texas. He also served as an executive director of the Baylor Alumni Association. A standout track star while at Baylor, he is a member of the Baylor University Athletic Hall of Fame. The Sky's the Limit
During the WNBA draft on April 9, Baylor guard Angela Tisdale, who was selected as the thirty-third overall pick, was drafted by the Chicago Sky. The Lady Bears’ sixth WNBA draftee in team history, Tisdale was the team-leading scorer with 16.4 points a game during her final season at Baylor. The Austin native led the Big 12 Conference in free-throw percentage and was the league’s fifth-ranked scorer. “I am very excited to be able to continue playing basketball,” she said after the draft. “I have worked extremely hard to prepare for the next level.” For more on Tisdale, go to the
